Position: Accountant

Reports to: Finance & Administration Manager

Commitment: Full time

Location/ Duty station: Kampala with frequent travels to Jinja Office

Job Summary: To provide financial support to program activities including monitoring, reporting and enforcement of financial policies, procedures and internal controls.

Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) is a non-governmental organization that provides Development Communication services aimed at influencing positive behaviors for the social development of men, women and children. CDFU is a partner on the USAID Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in East Central Uganda Activity (USAID/Uganda RHITES EC). The purpose of this Activity is implementation of a comprehensive integrated investment in regional health, nutritional assistance and HIV/AIDS programs. The five-year Activity collaborates with 11 districts in East-Central Uganda.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounting system for the CDFU/USAID RHITES E-C Activity
  • Prepare monthly budgets and cash flows, monitor receipts, payments, banking and withdrawals
  • Conduct timely bank reconciliations and analysis & prepare timely financial reports
  • Orient new technical staff on financial procedures/guidelines. Ensure statutory requirements like NSSF, PAYE are properly calculated and submitted to relevant authorities on time
  • Prepare staff salaries and other allowances on monthly basis or as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting Option or Finance) or equivalent from a recognized institution, must have ACCA Professional qualification; CPA and other Post graduate qualifications will be an added advantage. The applicant should have knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint & Quick Books. Possess at least five years of experience in the field of accounting preferably in NGOs, good interpersonal skills, integrity and strong communication skills. Knowledge of USAID policies/ procedures is an added advantage.


  • (Note: Ability to speak and understand Lusoga or Luganda local languages will be an added advantage.).
