Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) implements the Healthy Choices project under the 7th Government of Uganda/UNFPA Country Programme. The project utilizes a radio program that models positive practices and behaviours, stimulates dialogue and action concerning focal issues in the community, and reinforces the community mobilisation efforts by groups such as Village Health Teams (VHTs) to make it easier for adoption of desired behaviour among the community members. CDFU oriented and equipped VHTs with knowledge and skills to mobilize their communities for the services promoted. Healthy Choices is implemented in eleven (11) UNFPA grant receiving districts (Kaabong, Katakwi, Kanungu, Kotido, Mubende, Moroto, Oyam, Yumbe, Abim, Arua and Nakapiripirit). The project promotes positive practices through a radio programme focusing on five key selected topics namely: pregnancy and maternity care; family planning, young people and vulnerable groups’ reproductive health, reproductive rights and women’s empowerment; and gender based violence prevention and management. The one-hour magazine format radio programme includes the following features:

• Pre-recorded drama

• Listeners’ questions

• Community voices - the community’s view on the drama and issues that it raises

• Comments from the listeners about the drama

• Experts’ discussion
